The Music Generation and Musicians 4 Hearing present an exciting opportunity to promote inclusion and raise Deaf awareness through the magic of Auslan and song.
Working with Deaf artist and Auslan guide Luke King (National Gallery of Victoria) and Auslan interpreter Ilana Charnelle Gelbart (Deafferent Theatre), this program teaches the fundamentals of sign language, including the Auslan alphabet, using a current, popular song.
The program will be primarily taught by the Deaf presenter. For many children, this will be the first time they have communicated with a Deaf person, and it is a wonderful, fun way for them to engage with someone from the community. Creating inclusion and raising awareness is a core feature of this program.
The students will be able to present a short performance of their song and the Auslan alphabet for family members or the school community at the end of their class. This is optional component and arrangements will need to be made by the school for the performance to take place if on a larger scale than the students' classroom at the end of the session.
Past Signing/Singing event at Genazzano FCJ College in 2017.
